Boom 2 has become scratchy and distorted on latest Yosemite

edited August 2015 in Boom Discussions
Never had this problem before, but every time on go on to audio media like Amazon Prime Video or Amazon Music (and a host of others) on my MBP it starts out scratchy and distorted until I fool with the effects options - shifting from ambiance to fidelity and vice versa. Inconvenient to have to do so every time I bring up audio media. I've tried complete uninstall and reinstall with no success. Even in the middle of a reinstall, when Boom 2 is calibrating my MBP, the distortion and fuzziness happens. If I put headphones in to my Mac during a song no problem. If I take the headphones out of my Mac during a song it becomes scratchy and distorted again. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but this sure wasn't happening before. Help please. Thanks.

This may sound weird, but I think Boom2 may not play well with the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight for the Mac. Not sure, but Boom 2 seems to have trouble with it.

No, it's not Silverlight. I uninstalled Silverlight, and then tried Boom2 again with the same initial scratchy/distorted sound until I start playing with ambiance and fidelity. Tried a PRAM reset too with no success. Can't figure out sudden distortion issue. Boom and Boom2 have always worked well for me. I have tried everything I know. Boom 2 has just gone wonky on me. EQ screen doesn't change from when I first turn on an audio to when I have to fool with the "effects" to get clear sound again. Help.

  • Sorry for your trouble, but glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. Can make you nutty, not to say worried as well about the state of your computer speakers.
  • Fixed. Changed Midi setup format to 44100hz from 96000 hz on both input and output and it works just fine now.
