Sync issues with YouTube

edited December 2014 in Boom Discussions
Hi,
I'm currently having issues with YouTube playback with Boom 2 1.0, the video and the audio are out of sync. Here's the error message from the console:

08/12/14 22:12:12,000 kernel[0]: Google Chrome He (map: 0xffffff80196584b0) triggered DYLD shared region unnest for map: 0xffffff80196584b0, region 0x7fff95a00000->0x7fff95c00000. While not abnormal for debuggers, this increases system memory footprint until the target exits.

I have tested Safari and Firefox and the problem is also present (btw, both HTML5 and Flash players were tested).

I have a MacBook Pro mid-2014, Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10.1

Is there any way I can fix it?

  • Hello @brunokkoga: Thank you for providing the details. We will run the details through our engineers so that they can comment on this.
  • Hi,
I have similar problem, audio and video are out of sync. Running iMac i5 2012 model with OSX 10.10.1. I did discover that the issue is solved when I try to activate Airplay; first time I try, Airplay does not activate at all, but the sync issue is gone. However, from that point onwards, BOOM2 tells me it is inactive until Airplay is switched off. Again activating Airplay will activate Airplay indeed, but no matter how many times I activate Airplay and deactivate it, BOOM2 is persistent telling me it cannot function with Airplay active. Sync issues are solved however. Hope this info helps and you can fix it soon.
    Rgds.

  • Thank you @TAFKAA. We will get back here if we need more info.
  • I have the same issue - also when I turn Boom off , and plug in headphones my headphones don't get selected as the output source, it stays at boom2device.
  • @theSimonBolduc: Audio device output not switching is from the OS X side. Boom2Device will release the control and we observed this issue during our test phase. Our engineers filed a bug report to Apple Developers through the mechanism provided but it was marked as 'duplicate'. This means, they are aware of this issue and hopefully it will be fixed in a future OS X update.
  • Any updates on this issue?
  • Playback with streaming in general is problematic. Popcorn Time, which streams torrents online, also has sync issues between audio and video.

    Quitting Boom fixes the problem.
  • I'm bummed about this. I mainly listen to music on my MBP and din't notice this issue until watching some youtube videos. Quote annoying. Any plans to fix this soon?
  • Another update: disabling Boom 2 is not enough to temporarily fix this, I have to shut down the app in order to fix the sync issue.
  • Having issue with Spotify as well
  • Hi,

Could you please provide us with Yes/No answer with one line answer for the following sequences:

    1. Does the sync issue occur after the launch of the Boom 2?
    2. Or does it occur when you Pause/Play a music file or video?
    3. If the sync issue occurs during watching a Youtube video, immediately check whether the issue occurs with the local files (any videos of your collection).
    4. When you come across the sync issue, how did you try to get rid of it?
    5. Which type of effects is mostly and currently used by you in Boom 2?
    6. Are there any external speakers or headphones connected to your system?
    7. When the sync issue occurs, please open up your activity monitor and take a screenshot of the same and send it to us.
    8. Also send us the full system config.
  • I got this issue too - seems like it happens after some time.
  • I have noticed the same problem.
It occurs with streaming and it also occurs with local files played on the computer (watching a video from file). The lag is only noticeable when watching a video source because you have a visual marker.
I have also noticed the lag when using DJ software, when you execute an effects button (kick drum etc there is a delay before you hear the effect). I therefore suspect the problem is across the board.
The only way to get rid of the sync issue is to switch off Boom 2 and leave it switched off !
This is a priority to fix, otherwise this software has become redundant.
Can you let us know when you have sorted it out so it can be switched back on. Otherwise it has been a waste of money.
  • 1. Yes.
    2. Not really, sometimes pausing the video actually fixes the issue.
    3. Local files are fine.
    4. Closing and restarting Boom 2.
    5. Only the equalizer.
    6. Yes, JBL bluetooth speakers. Using internal speakers fixes the issue.
    7. Ok, I'll send when possible.
    8. It's reported above.
  • 1. Does the sync issue occur after the launch of the Boom 2?
    Yes.

    2. Or does it occur when you Pause/Play a music file or video?
    No.

    3. If the sync issue occurs during watching a Youtube video, immediately check whether the issue occurs with the local files (any videos of your collection).
Yes. local files are OK, but not with FCPX with local files.

    4. When you come across the sync issue, how did you try to get rid of it?
    Quit Boom 2.

    5. Which type of effects is mostly and currently used by you in Boom 2?
    EQ + FX

    6. Are there any external speakers or headphones connected to your system?

  • Hi,

Seeing the same issues here with Silverlight (Amazon Instant), Flash (YouTube) and HTML5 (Netflix), although only if Boom 2 is running when I start the stream. If Boom 2 isn't running when I start the stream, and then I run it, everything is fine.

    1. Does the sync issue occur after the launch of the Boom 2?

    See above.

    2. Or does it occur when you Pause/Play a music file or video?

    Pausing had no effect.

    3. If the sync issue occurs during watching a Youtube video, immediately check whether the issue occurs with the local files (any videos of your collection).

VLC on local files seems fine.

    4. When you come across the sync issue, how did you try to get rid of it?

Shutdown Boom 2 and start it again. Everything is then in sync.

    5. Which type of effects is mostly and currently used by you in Boom 2?

    Fidelity

    6. Are there any external speakers or headphones connected to your system?

    No.

    7. When the sync issue occurs, please open up your activity monitor and take a screenshot of the same and send it to us.

Will look for this next time.

    8. Also send us the full system config.

    OS X 10.10.2
    32Gb RAM

  • I checked the log when this happened again (in Eye TV this time) and there was nothing untoward in the log for Boom 2:

07/02/2015 10:52:02.401 universalAccessAuthWarn[482]: AccessibilityAPI: pid 1566, is not allowed to access the accessibility API. Path: /Applications/Boom 2.app/Contents/MacOS/Boom 2
    07/02/2015 10:52:14.903 Boom 2[1566]: Bartender: Loaded BartenderHelperSeventyEight

As before, I closed Boom 2 and reopened it, and everything was fine.

    Regards

    Darren.
  • After this last restart I re-ran all of the apps that have shown problems, and all were fine.

Given your question about Activity Monitor above, and this behaviour, are you leaning towards this being something that appears over time, e.g. memory leak, orphan processes, etc?
  • Hi Tenjinuk,

Thank you the details provided. We will have our development team look into it.
We have not yet confirmed on how the issue generates. Our team is working on it. We will get back to you if we need more info on the same.
  • I have the same problem, but the delay is removed when the equalizer is turned off. I can turn it back on again with no delay, but it eventually seems to creep back in over time.
  • I can confirm this. The EQ adds a slight delay in audio for youtube and video files like MKVs.
  • Hi,

We have released an update for Boom 2 a few hours back. We suggest you update your copy of Boom 2 to the latest version and check if it helps.
  • I'm still having the same issues here.
  • Hey,

We have a new version of Boom 2 test build available, where we have tried providing fix specifically for sync related issues. We request all the above sync issue users to get in touch with our Support Team (boom2@globaldelight.com) and check if it helps.
Be sure to have the updated OS, browsers (and flash player updates for browsers), player updates before trying out the test build.

Note: It came to light that few sync issue reported by users on streaming files was due to older version of flash players. Please update the same and check if it helps.
(To update flash players in browsers, you need to manually visit the below link and download the latest version of flash player https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ )
Please do send us your system info and OS configuration.

    1. Does the sync issue occur after the launch of the Boom 2?
No, at first sync is just fine.

    2. Or does it occur when you Pause/Play a music file or video?
Pause/Stop in iTunes and eyTV does not affect nor reproduce the issue.

    3. If the sync issue occurs during watching a Youtube video, immediately check whether the issue occurs with the local files (any videos of your collection).
In my case it does not matter, whether I am streaming online media or listening music from my local hard drive.

    4. When you come across the sync issue, how did you try to get rid of it?
Switching off the equalizer in boom and immediately switching it back on solves the issue temporarily. Unfortunately it will appear again after some time.

    5. Which type of effects is mostly and currently used by you in Boom 2?
I am only using Boom 2 as a system wide equalizer. No further effects applied.

    6. Are there any external speakers or headphones connected to your system?
Yes, I have connected some Audioengine A2 desktop speakers on the back of my iMac

    7. Screenshots attached. Sync problems started at about 13:42

    8. Also send us the full system config.
iMac Retina 2014, Base Line Model, OS X 10.10.3 (14D113c)
    System report sent via mail.

Here is screenshots of the second time sync issue returns. This time audio and video got out of sync at around 14:00.

maybe you can make out similar behaviour.

it would really like to see this issue fixed.

Let me know in case there is any more information you need.
  • Hi Le_jean,

We have released an update for Boom 2 v1.1.2 a few hours back. We suggest you to update your copy of Boom 2 to the latest version and check if it helps.
  • Hi ShreyasKuthu,

    Thank you!
With Boom 2 v1.1.2 my sync issues seem to be fixed.
