So I installed the trial version of Boom 2 on my Macbook (Yosemite 10.10.2) and the setup went fine and I was able to get sound and everything sounded great. Now whenever I play anything, whether it's a video on YouTube, music in Spotify, etc, I get no sound until I open the System Preferences, go to Sound, then under Output select either Internal Speakers or Headphones (depending which I have at the time). I see Boom2Device listed, but I have to click either of the other output devices and then it auto selects Boom2Device and the sound kicks in. But if whatever sound source is being played stops and I exit Spotify or my browser or whatever, and start something back up, I get no sound and have to again go into Sound settings and click the output device. Please help as I really like the improvements to the sound I'm getting, but if I have to do this every single time a new source is played it's what's going to keep me from making a purchase.

Are you using Bluetooth headset? Could you please provide us more info on the same? Also, could you please disconnect the headset and check if you get the same issue? Do let us know your system info.
@dannymccarter, @moeyzf,
Have you checked the option to launch Boom at login on start-up?
Also, could you please refer screenshot below and check the option shown in the screenshot below and let us know if it helps?
We have released an update for Boom 2 a few hours back. We suggest you update your copy of Boom 2 to the latest version and check if it helps.
On Yosemite 10.10.2
1. Macbook Air is shut and asleep.
2. Plugin iMac via Thunderbolt (for external display)
3. Plugin headphones
4. Open Macbook + switch over to iMac
5. Audio still plays through iMac speakers instead of Headphones (this never happened before installing Boom).
6. Replug headphones, audio output is fixed and going to headphones.
It's possible that Boom is having to juggle 2-3 audio devices with how many I have plugged in, but IMO, it should always default to headphones if they're plugged in, just as they do when Boom is not installed. I'm not sure if Boom has audio device priority logic baked in, but it would be great!
In the meantime, I may just wait to plugin my headphones when my computer is already on and switched to the iMac.
Boom switches automatically by itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system.
What's happening here is that Boom 2 is detecting iMac speakers, as it is the last connected device. Hence the audio is audible via the same. To switch Boom 2 to other sound output device, you can do a 'Option + click' on default Mac volume icon in the menu bar and select the desired one or as you said, replug headphones.
There are several of users for whom Boom 2 is working flawlessly. We are trying to get to the root of every issue reported by our users and a lot of users have been really helpful in troubleshooting them.

it really appears to a fundamental flaw in Boom 2 not to have more explicit control over which audio output device the Boom 2 output is directed to. I have monitor with built-in speakers connected via DisplayPort. I want to use MacPro internal speakers. Unfortunately the monitor speaker are terrible and Boom 2 re-directs the audio to the monitor every time i resume for dimmed screen.
I am another potential customer which cannot accept the product with this severe defect.
Please please add an Boom 2 option to reliably choose the desired audio output device.
Until then i'm ditching this product.
I am using Boom 2, Version 1.1.2. on an iMac (late 2013), OS X 10.10.3, downloaded and registered on you web site.
As long as Boom Volume or Equalizer or Effects are enabled I do not get any audio output, like the system is muted. As soon as I deactivate all of these Boom specific settings sound works perfect.
Any approach to debug it?
BR Philipp
Boom 2 does provide an option to control over which audio output device the Boom 2 output is directed to. Please uncheck the option 'Keep Boom Helper running when I quit Boom' and check if it helps. Please refer screenshot below:
@phriedel,
Could you please uncheck/check Boom 2 under Audio Midi Setup and check if it helps?
@EPAtweeter,
As shown in the screenshot below, you can try enabling 'Keep Boom Helper running when I quit Boom' and check if it helps.
Whenever I select the output "Internal Speakers" it defaults back to Boom2Device, and I get no sound at all. Previously I could select "Internal Speakers" and get output. Since I reinstalled boom2 (including the kext) I have nothing. I have to uninstall this.
I am running a Mac Mini with Boom2 (latest, just reinstalled) and OS X 10.10.4 beta - but this problem was present before I upgraded to the beta. I also have a Dell Ultrasharp U2711 connected via DisplayPort. Enabling/Disabling the Boom2Daemon makes no difference.
When I do one of the previous, I get muted sound.
The easiest way I've found to avoid accessing the System Prefs, is left-clicking with 'option' on the volume icon in the toolbar. It shows you the available output options and I just click the right one. Done.
The funny thing is that 'Boom2Device' is always selected. When I choose the output, say 'Headphones', it starts playing the sound, but the output goes back to 'Boom2Device'.
Edit: I'm using Boom2 1.1.2 on a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.3
Could you please let us know whether Dell Ultrasharp U2711 has an audio output option?
Also, could you please quit Boom 2 and check which device has the sound output switched to? Boom switches automatically by itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system. You can always get in touch with our Support Team (boom2@globaldelight.com) for more help.
