Boom will not start.

I purchased Boom, installed it, opened it and it worked perfectly fine as far as I could see, then I opened the menu to raise my Mac volume and proceeded to download and install the required component. After doing this the application does not open, it appears in the Activity Monitor as a process but does not show up on my screen or task bar.

I have reinstalled both the application and the codec twice to no avail.

  • Hi JackAdrianLee,

Regarding your query, please make sure to have only one copy of Boom in your system, also please make sure that you install Boom app in Application folder itself and not in any sub-folders.
It seems that you have purchased Boom via Mac App Store.
Could you please check for BoomDevice.kext in the following path System/Library/Extensions/BoomDevice.kext (refer screen shot), if present delete it and also delete Boom app, now ensure that BoomDevice has been removed from System Sound Preference (under output). Restart the system.
Next, as you have purchased Boom via App Store, then please re-install Boom from App Store itself. Make sure that you use the same account which was used on purchase.
  • I've tried everything suggested on your forum. I've reloaded it from the App Store, added the Audio Component but nothing opens when I click on the Boom Icon in my Applications or my Dock.

    Hi there,

Regarding your query, there are a few things that we would like to know to help resolve your issue.
    - Have you downloaded Boom via Mac App Store or some other source?
    - You could check the Sound preferences (System preferences > Sound) to ensure that 'BoomDevice' is listed under 'Output' tab.
    - Launch the 'Activity Monitor' and ensure that Boom is listed under the processes when it is running.
    - Could you tell me the system OS and also send me the system info.
    - Could you uncheck the "Play stereo audio as mono" in system preference(Hearing in Universal Access)
    - Is your menu bar crowded? If yes, then move some items and launch Boom.

Could you please check for Boom audio component in the following path System/Library/Extensions (refer screenshot ), if present delete it and also delete Boom app, now ensure that BoomDevice has been removed from System Sound Preference (under output). Next restart the system.
As you have purchased from Mac App Store then please re-install from App Store itself. Make sure that you use the same account which was used on purchase.

Please make sure to have only one copy of Boom in your system, also please make sure that you install Boom app in Application folder itself and not in any sub-folders.

Still if you have any issues, then please contact our Support Team.
  • I've contacted boom@globaldelight.com twice in a week with no response. I'm having basically the same problem as everyone else: purchased Boom from the App store, installed it with no problems and then downloaded BoomDevice.pkg. 'Boom Device' appears in my System Preferences > Sound but when clicked I don't get any sound. I've deleted and reinstalled everything according to the advice in the help forums, zapped the PRAM and restarted but it still doesn't work. One thing I notice is that 'VolumeBooster.component is not installed in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components.
  • Hey Eddie,

Regarding your query, we have responded to your mail earlier. To the email address which ends with @me.com also followed up the same to your @mac.com email address

Sometimes the mail lands into the Junk/Spam folder or it might get caught in the Anti-Spam clients.
  • I am having the same problem as keen_eddie although mine wasn't purchased from the App Store. I have also deleted various parts, used the uninstaller, etc. before reinstalling with no luck. I also don't have the piece he mentioned "VolumeBooster.component is not installed in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components." Should I? I am running in 10.7.5
Are there any software packages that Boom doesn't work when they are installed?
  • Hey Mbpetey,

Regarding your query, the component will be installed in the path System/Library/Extensions/BoomDevice
Please do not click on BoomDevice in System Preference -> Sound manually. Boom switches automatically by itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system.
Also could you please follow the steps provided in the above comments posted before Eddie and try troubleshooting the issue.
If you still have any issues, then please contact our Support Team.
  • Hi again. Sorry, I looked everywhere but I don't see either email. Please resend.

Also, I tried re-installing from the App store and now I don't see the BoomDevice extension (as in the above path) in the Extensions folder, or in the Sound Preferences pane. I'd really like to use this utility but it's becoming a lot of effort to get that done. Please help.

    Thanks.
  • Hi Eddie,

We have resent the mail again.
As you have mentioned that you do not see BoomDevice extension in any path, it seems that you have uninstalled Boom completely from your system.
As you have reinstalled Boom via Mac App Store. Now, launch Boom via Application folder by clicking on Boom. (Is your menu bar crowded? If yes, then move some items and launch Boom.)
You will see Boom icon in menu bar, launch Boom window and download the audio component within the app.
Once done, you will find a volume slider by clicking on Boom icon in menu bar.
Now play any music and check whether you hear the boosted volume.
Please make sure to have only one copy of Boom in your system, also please make sure that you install Boom app in Application folder itself and not in any sub-folders.

    Note :

Boom has compatibility issues with Bluetooth headset/speakers. Please unplug Bluetooth devices in order to work with Boom.
We noticed that the Bluetooth issues does not persists in Mac OS X 10.8.4 (pre-release).

If you still have issues, then please download a trial copy of Boom from our website www.globaldelight.com/boom and check if it helps.

If you still have issues, then we can have a screen-share session via Skype. Please do let us know when and at what time you can be available for this. We operate between 9:00A.M and 7:00P.M IST from Monday to Friday. Please pass us your handle.

  • Well, I thought I'd have good news. I reinstalled from the App store and it worked, until I restarted. It looks as though the BoomDevice installed because under 'Mac Volume' I have options for volume and equaliser. But after restart I still get no sound when BoomDevice is selected in the Sound preferences pane. Also, I don't see the VolumeBooster.component.

I didn't receive any email, btw. I'll re-email you so you have the address. I'm in Australia so I'm not sure how we'll manage to linkup with the time difference, but obviously there's something wrong with the software so perhaps you could look into it by installing it on one of your machines (ideally, from the App store) and go through all the steps I've followed, then post what happened.

    Cheers!
  • Hey Edmund,

We can help you troubleshoot your issue here itself. We see that our mails are not reaching you (not sure why).

We did install Boom via Mac App Store without any issues.
    Steps followed :
    1. Buy Boom via Mac App Store
    2. Once the download completes open Application folder and click on Boom icon in Application folder
    3. Boom icon launches in menu bar (top right corner of the desktop screen)
    4. Click on the Boom icon, Boom window will launch.
    5. Click on Mac volume in the Boom window (left bottom corner) which lets you install the audio component.
    6. Once the installation is complete, click on done button in the same window and close Boom window.
    7. Click on Boom icon in menu bar -> instead of Boom window opening - you will find a volume slider. Play any music in your system and feel the difference.

Regarding your query, the component will be installed in the path System/Library/Extensions/BoomDevice.kext (there is no other VolumeBooster.component)

Please do try installing Boom via our website store and check if it helps.

    Note :

Boom has compatibility issues with Bluetooth headset/speakers. Please unplug Bluetooth devices in order to work with Boom. Also try playing the audio via internal speakers as a start.
We noticed that the Bluetooth issues does not persists in Mac OS X 10.8.4 (pre-release).
  • I have iOS 10.8.4. When I installed boom it looks like this (picture).
This cannot be right. What do I do?
  • Hi User_1234,

The issue occurs if the plist is corrupted. Plist needs to be deleted before reinstalling a fresh copy of Boom.
First could you please open System Preferences->Sound and check for BoomDevice under output. If not found, quit Boom within the app (or via Activity Monitor) and trash it.
Now, check for com.globaldelight.BoomMAS.plist in the following path User / library / preferences / com.globaldelight.BoomMAS.plist (refer screenshot), delete it. Install a fresh copy of Boom via purchase point.
Please contact our Support Team for further help.
  • Hello,

I just bought boom for my macbook pro (10.8.5). Boom downloaded with no issues and then I opened it in the applications folder. It appeared in my menu bar, but when I click on the boom icon, the tab for mac volume is not working. How do I fix this?
