Boom2 has basically stopped audio on my mac. Unless I kill the application I get no audio.

Nothing has changed, this is new as of today. Nothing in preferences, no changes, it just kills audio.....

  • Hey,

As for troubleshooting, when Boom 2 is active, check the System Sound Preferences for Boom2Device.
Please make sure that the mute option is unchecked. (See the attached screenshot)

Also, launch the Audio Midi Setup app and check whether the mute option is checked for Boom2Device Input and Output sound. If yes, then please uncheck the same.(See the attached screenshot)

If you still face any issue, please contact our Support Team (boom2@globaldelight.com) for further assistance.
  • I have the same problem, with Boom 1.9.4. BoomDevice is not muted in system preferences or in Audio Midi setup. Turning on Boom doesn't just mute audio - it stops audio from playing completely (e.g. in iTunes the time elapsed will stop). The only way to fix it is to toggle Boom to the off position. The only recent system change on my machine was updating Flash Player.
  • It's working now, but still spotty as fuck, and not nearly as robust or functional as Boom1.... C'mon guys.....

I have the same issue. The mutes are all unchecked in the sys pref for sound and in the audio midi app. I now have *no* sound, whether Boom 2 is active or not. Uninstalling and reinstalling has not changed anything. How can I get sound back on my Mac please?
  • Similar issue. From time to time boom is stopping my audio. I have to quit boom and start it again.
  • Hey,

We would like to have a closer look at the mute issue in Boom/Boom 2.
We would like to diagnose the issue by having a Skype session with the above users.
We suggest you to get in touch with our Support Team (boom2@globaldelight.com) for further help.

  • Has this been fixed for anyone? Version 2 has been flaky for me too.
  • Uninstall Boom 2
    Reinstall
When you get to the calibrate section, remove anything plugged into the headphone jack. after calibrations you may have to go into system pref. , select sound, change output to Boom2

    Hope this helps
  • Having the exact same issue -using boom 1.
App crashes and hijacks output. Can't seem to toggle away from "boom device" in sound settings either without relaunching the program.

  • I've a similar problem on a MacMini. Very often I don't get sound anymore.
Trying to find a workaround I found that what actually seems to happen is that OSX with Boom2 installed randomly "forgets" which device it should use for output.
The workaround I found to work for me is:
    1) Open the System Preferences and go to the Sound module
    2) Select the Internal Speakers from the list. The selection goes back to the Boom device but it's OK.
    3) Select the Sound Effects tab and click on the first sound effect until the internal speakers play the sound.
    4) Go back to the Output tab and select the HDMI output device. The selection goes back again to the Boom device but it's OK.
    5) I repeat the procedure with the Sound Effects until I hear the sound through the HDMI connection.

It works... until the next time it happens to "forget" again.

It got to be a real PITA so I uninstalled Boom2. While a lot less frequently, the problem remains :-( Maybe Boom2 leaves something or a setting behind that confuses OS X?

Hope you'll find a solution to this. I like Boom2 a lot, but sadly as it is it's become useless.

  • I have this problem with Boom 1 and I found a workaround that worked, but I'm not sure if it works with Boom 2 as well.

My internal speakers have long not worked, so I relied on the headphone jack with external speakers (or bluetooth).

Going to the output tab of the sound module and selecting "headphones" worked but I had to click the headphones a few times before it would stay there.

Now this returned sound, but there was absolutely no internal control. Boom equalizer didn't work, etc.

Next I went to the sound effects tab and selected "Boom Device" next to "Play sound effects through" and voila, it works again. I have the equaliser and internal volume control restored.

I hope this works for someone else!
Based on the comments here, there is no way I'm up-downgrading to Boom 2!!!!
  • I just downloaded the trial version of Boom 2 to try it on my MacBook Late 2009 / OS X 10.11.1.

I installed it and let it do its self calibration - no extern speakers were attached during the procedure. Result: NO SOUND-OUTPUT AT ALL!

Checking System Prefs and Audio-MIDI-Setup, restarting my device did not help.

So I decided to deinstall Boom (via the Programs settings menu). This has made things even worse:

Now there is no more option to choose “Internal Speakers" as sound output in the System Preferences - only “Digital Out" with no output controls. I still can hear the Startup Sound while my MacBook restarts. But there is no sound output the the internal speakers when the system has fully booted. The only way to hear sound is by headphones…

If I unplug the headphones there appears a red light in the headphone jack.

According to Apple Support it indicates a HARDWARE FAILURE!!!

After searching different threads I noticed that I am not the only one experiencing this issue!

I hope you will find a solution for this, as you must understand my anger.

    Awaiting your reply!
