Video is Choppy

Hey, so when I record a screen capture video using Voila, the video file is very choppy. I have 8 gigs of Ram on my mac, I figured that would be enough. Let me know what I can do to make the video not choppy.

Thanks,

-Zach

  • Hi Zach,

Could you please let us know the fps of the original file which you are trying to record? Voila can record upto 60 fps.
You could try changing the compression types and frame rate under Voila Preferences->Record (please refer screenshot below) and check if it helps.
Also, could you please let us know your system info, OS used and version number of Voila? Do let us know the options selected in the window that appears just before recording and does it help if you alter the same?
  • Hi,
I'm having choppy video recording problems with VoilĂ  3.8.2 - I haven't had this issue before.

    I'm using a 17" MBP, 2.8Ghz, 8Gb RAM running 10.9.5

After I experienced the choppy video using the default settings, I increased the frame rate to 60fps. That didn't do anything, so I also tried again, turning the 'Remove duplicate Frames' setting on. Again, still choppy video.

Finally, I tried changing the video compression type to jpeg, and now video records fine, as it did before. I haven't gone back to see if lower frame rates record ok with jpeg compression, and all the recordings I have made are full-screen. When I have some time I will try some other settings.

On my wife's MBP, which is a 2013 model running 10.9.5 and with 16Gb RAM there are no choppy video issues at all.

Whatever, love the app to death, it's a real toolbox of useful stuff that we couldn't work without!

Here is a dropbox link to a short video with the choppy quality
