The latest upgrade messed up all my audio

edited December 2014 in Boom Discussions
I came to know Boom when it was still in version 1 and just fell in love with it (despite some minor caveats).

I then bought it and subscribed to the Boom2 Beta (and this was my first problematic upgrade, since the “BoomDevice” was still in my audio devices even though I had already uninstalled Boom v.1).

Nevertheless, my audio was really good like I expected, and when Boom 2 came out I bought it, believing those minor problems of Boom v.1 would be solved in due time.

This afternoon came a new upgrade to my Boom2, but this one caused a whole mess in my audio. For me it seems that there’s *something invisible* processing my audio output, like a hidden Boom or something, that I just can’t switch off or uninstall or delete or anything.

I have already installed Boom v.1 to uninstall it properly, I have already reinstalled Boom2 to make sure everything was clean (and I even used CleanMyMac and went all the way down to library and cache folders to erase any trace of previous installations), but the sound is still a total mess. Completely distorted, as if there was an equalizer messing everything up.

I then reinstalled Yosemite (not performing a clean install obviously, since I don’t have time right now for backing everything up) and the problem persisted.

As my LAST RESORT before a clean Yosemite reinstall, I checked my second screen, which supports HDMI audio, to hear how the audio is handled over to my TV. The problem is the same: the volume seems to be completely cranked out and the audio is terribly loud and distorted.

Do you guys have any idea of what could have possibly gone wrong?

My system setup is:
MBP Retina 15” Late 2014
Yosemite 10.10.1
2.1 audio system through headphone jack output

Thank you so much in advance.

Alex

  • Hi, support guys!

Of course I'm not expecting anyone of you to solve my problem on Christmas' Eve, but a heads up would be great. Unfortunately I had to perform a clean Yosemite install (having to back everything up, reinstall all my software) to fix the problem.

I love the audio quality delivered by Boom2, but I am quite afraid to reinstall it. I've decided to wait until the next update (perhaps Boom 2.1).

    Happy Holidays!
  • Hi Alexmziegler,

Could you please let us know whether the distortion is noticed in headphone only or even via internal speakers? We suggest you to get in touch with our Support Team (boom2@globaldelight.com) to uninstall Boom 2 completely from your system and reinstall a fresh copy.
