Boom and Mountain Lion

edited February 2015 in Boom Discussions
I don't know if anyone else is having this issue. But every so often my sound will stop working. Not even a reboot will bring it back. I have to actually go into Sound within System Preferences and click on Headphones or something other then BoomDevice. After click on something other then BoomDevice, like Headphones for example, it will just click on the Headphones for a second and then go back to highlighting the Boom Device. Then my sound will come back.

Is this a glitch with Mountain Lion? Or is just a isolated case with my Boom and Mountain Lion?

Thanks,
Alvin

  • Same here. My sound stops working when I wake my iMac up from sleep. I also have to go in to the Sound settings, switch to another Output, then switch back to Boom to get the sound.
  • I have this problem too.
  • I hope there a fix for this soon. I love this app, but this issue is getting kind of annoying.

    Dear Boom Users,

Recently a few users have reported that in OS X 10.8, sound disappears randomly with Boom running (i.e. on opening system sound preference and selecting the internal speakers, BoomDevice gets activated again).

Our team is currently working on their highest priority to resolve the issue. A complete fix will be provided in the next version of Boom.

Please do write to our Support Team if you are willing to help us out in troubleshooting the issue. Your help will be appreciated.

    Thank you for your patience.

I've noted this too. What happens is that the sound redirects to AppleTV after a while, i really don't know what triggers the change.
Clicking on InternalDevice brings back the sound but after a few moments the sound redirects again to the AppleTV.
The Sound Output selection always stays at BoomDevice.
  • Hello.
I buy Boom from App Store....and i can't download ''Boom Audio component''....
    help please...!
  • Hello Aliask,

Regarding your query, as you have purchased Boom form Mac App Store, please download Boom audio component within the app.

In order to get the Boom volume slider, you need to download the audio component within the app.

The zip audio component file will be saved in downloads folder. Once you double click on the zip file it will open up as a pkg file. Next, install.

If you were still unable to download the audio component then please click on the below link to download the audio component:

  • Any solution coming for the Mountain Lion Boom audio bug?
  • Hello,

Our team is currently working on the Boom bug seen on Mountain Lion. We have come up with a fix for the same and we shall provide an update for the site version of Boom with this fix incorporated, in the coming week.
  • Hey,

We would like to inform you that we have released an update for Boom (v1.5.1) with a fix for the sound-disappearing issues on Mac OS X Mountain Lion.

The same update shall be available to the Mac App Store version of Boom users in the coming week as it has to pass through App Store review queue.

We thank all the users who have helped us in reporting the issue and taking part in beta testing.
  • I'm thinking it was somehow a Boom / Airplay issue that has now been resolved. My AppleTV has now finally gone to sleep for the first time in weeks. :-)
  • Updated boom, still have the problem. I usually use some Logitech USB speakers and they keep being disabled. I have to switch to internal speakers and then back to the USB speakers.
  • I don't have Mountain Lion. Purchased boom on August 22, version 1.5.1. I have the audio disappearing version, too. Quit Boom, everything works fine. Start Boom, sound goes away. I'm using Creative Diisound D5 speakers via Bluetooth.

I would love to see this fixed, as it makes Boom unusable for me.
  • I'm having this same issue as others have discussed.

    Scenario:
Turn on AppleTV, Boom is currently selected in sound preferences. Try to play a sound and sound comes from laptop instead of TV. Try to switch off Boom and select Apple TV but it jumps back to Boom.

I have version 1.6. A friend of mine has Boom and his shows a different for Boom that shows AirPlay is enabled.

Looking forward to any new updates!
  • @nielss,

Boom has compatibility issues with Bluetooth headsets/speakers.
This is a known issue. We have noticed the issue and our developers have been notified.

    @Robkurzd,

Could you please quit and launch Boom and check whether it helps.

Boom is mainly focused to improve the audio quality right on Mac's in-built speakers with a volume boosting and equalizer component.
Due to the recent conflicts with Boom and Airplay in Mountain Lion, we have come to a conclusion and have not provided support with Airplay. Kindly co-operate.
  • I'm having the same problem with Bluetooth connection to Bose Soundlink II speakers. Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I don't understand the above admin comment (". . . we have come to a conclusion and have not provided support with Airplay. Kindly co-operate."). Does this mean it can't be fixed?
  • Hi there,

Regarding your query, Bluetooth issue is a known issue. The above comment is for the compatibility issue between Boom and Airplay.

Bluetooth compatibility with Boom seems to be a known issue, as most part of it is dependent on the OS. While Boom gives the sound output to the OS, sometimes it's not handling very well. With OS 10.7.4 update some times it works with some type of BT headsets while it may not work with few others. We have noticed the issue and our developers have been notified.
  • Hi all, I'm new here and have a similar question to solve:
Mac Book Pro, OS X 10.6.8, processor 2 Ghz Intel Core i7. Boom is fine all the time is functioning the computer, but when I turn on the machine after a repose, Boomdevice doesn't work, there is no sound and I have to get it selecting the internal speakers.
The only solution I have found at the moment is to delete completely the App and reinstall it again each time the computer is started, a bit annoying, so is there any solution? Thank you so much for your Help !!!
  • Hi Wanakm,

Regarding your query, could you please let us know the Sound output devices listed in your System Preference -> Sound. Boom switches automatically by itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system.

Ideally when Boom is active, BoomDevice would be selected. It also depend on which external Output is being used. If you have been using internal speakers then click on the internal speakers or if any other external device like speakers, headphones (if Boom is active then the selection reverts to BoomDevice, this is normal), now play any audio file on your system and check if you can hear the boosted sound.
Also you can try turning Boom ON and OFF within the app and check if it helps.

Please make sure to have only one copy of Boom in your system, also please make sure that you install Boom app in Application folder itself and not in any subfolders.
If you still have any issues, then please contact our Support Team.
  • I had a MacBook Pro at work. Boom worked fine for me.
I got a MacBook Pro Retina at home and tried to get boom for it.
Does not work, no sound. I see you say there is a conflict with Airplay.
So what is the workaround for that? Uninstall all airplay apps? Shut off airplay itself... Airserver? Ideas?
Boom is in the App folder directly, I did install the boom component also, no diff.
    SoSad.

    Hi Gregp,

Regarding your query, due to the recent conflicts with Boom and Airplay in Mountain Lion, we have come to a conclusion and have not provided support with Airplay. When Airplay is ON Boom will put up the below screen (please refer screenshot below).

Note : Do you use any Bluetooth headsets/speakers? Boom has compatibility issues with Bluetooth headsets/speakers. Please unplug the same in order for Boom to work. We noticed that the Bluetooth issues does not persists in Mac OS X 10.8.4 (pre-release).
  • The bug is still present on OS X 10.8.3 (15'' MBPr).

I am only using the equalizer part of the app and always using headphones (mini jack).

The bug disapears when alt-clicking on the native volume icon and selecting headphones, but often i don't know if a video has no sound or if its just the Boom app that is not working.
  • Boom prevents my MBA from going to sleep when Idle -- ran pmset -g command and it shows it's the culprit. Anyone else seeing this? Had to uninstall. :(
  • @Znegl,

Could you please elaborate your query?

I have the same problem. My setup is a bit complex though.

I have an Mac Mini connect to my TV through HDMI. However, the TV's HDMI port (for PC) is video only. So, I use iMic USB to output audio from Mac Mini to TV. So, this setup uses Mac Mini's HDMI port to output video and iMic USB to output audio.

I also have Plex Media Client/Server installed on iMac Mini. The problem is When Plex wakes up Mac Mini from sleep, the Boom will choose HDMI audio output as the default, not iMic USB I first set up in System Preferences. Since, The TV can't accept sound from HDMI, I'd lose sound after waking up. I always have to go to Sound in System Preferences, and click on iMic USB as audio output to get the sound back.

Why can't Boom remember that last selected audio output after waking up from sleep? This is frustrating.

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  • Hi Boomer,

Regarding your query, we would like to inform you that there has been cases where Boom had issues with HDMI input or the Thunderbolt output.
We have noticed the issue and our developers are notified about the same.
But often, Boom works fine with the same. Usually Boom switches automatically by itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system. Thanks for reporting, we will look into it.
As a workaround you can try turning Boom ON and OFF within the app and check if it helps.
If you still have any issues, then please contact our Support Team.
  • Hi,

I've been reading through this thread and have seen it stated that the no sound issue is resolved. Unfortunately that is not the case.

I have the latest version of both Boom and Mountain Lion. I've uninstalled and installed repeatedly boom and the audio helper and whenever I have boom or the equaliser enabled I have no sound output.

Is there some time frame for having this issue resolved?
  • Hi Palobo,

Regarding your query, could you please let us know when do you come across the no sound issue? Is it while using Airplay or HDMI port?
Also could you please let us know the sound output devices listed in your System Preferences -> Sound? Do send us a screenshot of the same.
Also while uninstalling Boom, make sure that you do it within the app via Settings->Preferences->Uninstall.
Ensure that you do not have multiple copies of Boom in your system.
Please do send us the details requested to our Support Team.
  • Hi, Sorry for the delay, in responding. Much to my disappointment and sadness I've had boom turned off (and I feel the difference). Now to answer your questions:

I cannot really pinpoint when this started happening but I don't really use Airplay (not counting apps such as iDisplay of course) and I don't have HDMI output (I've got a mid 2011 MBA).

I've uninstalled Boom via settings and using Hazel which will trash every instance of the App and associated files.

As for sound devices, here's a screenshot http://cl.ly/image/3b2e243E1E0A The only other time this is different is when I'm recording and I have my Yeti Mic plugged in.

As soon as I turn on Boom or the Equalizer I loose audio output. Till this is fixed, it's either crappy audio or no audio.

Please help me get this working again.
  • Hi Palobo,

Regarding your query, our Support Team will get in touch with you for further help.
We will contact you to the email address used to post the above query.
