Voila Lion and the rMBP

edited July 2012 in Voila Discussions
I am not able to to capture selection properly with the new Retina MacBook Pro. I am getting multiple white lines across my selection as I drag the selection and when positioned correctly and shot, the image is incorrect. Full screen capture works fine.

Please advise.

  • @Jazzimus,

Currently we have not provided support to Retina displays, our developers are working on the same. Thank you for reporting.

Also we are working on the compatibility of Voila with Mountain Lion.

We are planning to revamp Voila soon. If you agree we would like to add you to the beta testers list, we see that you are interested in Voila a lot. We will appreciate your help.

For more info please contact out Support Team.
  • I'm having the same problem. I'll be happy to be a beta tester as well. I use Voila extensively for work and am now stuck with full-screen screenshots :(

    Thanks,
    PV
  • I'm currently evaluating Voila! and I'm on a RMBP and on Mountain Lion. So would really appreciate it if you could add me to the beta tester list as well so that I can be certain that Voila! meets my needs/requirements and works correctly on my machine.
  • @Mrshriek, @Fahim,

    Welcome aboard!

We will be passing you with the Voila beta build whenever there is one.
Currently we are looking up for the Mountain Lion users who can help us out with the Voila beta build for Mountain Lion compatibility. Do let us know if you upgrade to 10.8.
We have already added you to the beta users list. Expect the beta build soon :)
  • I posted a similar question yesterday on the Voila support page. I hadn't looked at this because it said "lion" and not "mountain lion" on the title. I also have Mountain Lion and the new retina display mac. I'm happy to know this isn't just me.
  • Hi,

Do you have an idea when the Retina version will be available. I am using intensively Voila to make screen capture (including annotations) to prepare ICT documents. Since i have my MBP Retina.....it is a nightmare for me...
    Thanks
  • Hi Yannisa,

It's good to know that you are using Voila screen capture intensively. We are aware of the Retina related problems and listing them out.

Voila development team has certain items prioritized and we will mark Retina compatibility as one of the top priorities in this chart. It might take few weeks and we will try to update once we are near the Beta.
  • Hi
Same as above please add me to Beta test list
Can we expect a working beta version by the end of the August
    Please !
  • I have the same problem, multiple white lines while selecting. Screen shot is a quarter of the selected image. Full screen capture is fine. Object capture is also fine.

Please add me to the Beta tester list.
  • Hi there,

I also have a rMBP and had no problem with Voila capturing until about a week ago. The audio now comes and goes. Sometimes the recording has full audio, other times the audio starts with what sounds like a bump on the mic and then is just silent. I wouldn't mind beta testing at all. I produce some gaming videos for fun and Voila has always been the simplest tool out there.
  • Hi All,

    Thank you for your patience.

As you have reported the issues of Voila in Retina MBP, we have come up with the beta fix in voila v3.2.1(beta).

If anyone would be interested in testing the beta for us? Please write to our Support Team and help us out by trying this beta version and let us know if you come across any issues with Voila in Retina MBP.

  • I have the same problem on my Mac Pro (Early 2009, ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB, OS X 10.8.2) when using Accessibility's screen zooming. Screen images are clipped correctly only when zooming is at x1 magnification (in other words, no screen magnification). I would love to participate in any beta test of a fix for this problem. Note that at least two other, lesser featured, screen snapshot apps do not have this problem.
  • Hi,

    I have the same issue.

How does one get access to the beta?

    Cheers
    Matt
  • The new VOila version 3.3 solves this issue. However, it sets the graphics chip to discrete wasting a lot of battery power. This seems to be a common issue with developers when they first port their software to support Retinas. I have seem several developer take a couple of releases before they are able to set their program to use integrated graphics while on battery.

WHere do we file bug reports?
  • Hi Mkr,

Thank you for reporting the issue.
We will log this in our defect tracker and our developers will look into it shortly.
Good to know that Voila works well in Retina MBP.

    Thank you once again.
  • Some issues I have noticed since I posted on September 15th. As I stated before, I produce some game videos on the rMBP, but as I'm playing, I noticed that my keys have begun sticking ONLY while recording. It never happens when I am not recording, only while I'm recording.

I mostly use the WASD keys to move my character, but also the spacebar to make it jump, and WHILE recording it will stick and I will constantly move in 1 direction (forward, backward, left, right, or jumping) without actually pressing the key. I never had the issue on my 17inch MBP before, it seems it's only with the rMBP.

    Any suggestions?

    Voila Version: 3.3
  • Hey Boomer0001,

Regarding your query, none of the user have reported any issue as such.
Yet, we could look into it. Could you please mention the game used? Also could you please check with the different games and let us know whether it happens only for a particular game or so?
Have you quit Voila and checked whether you get the same issue?
You can get in touch with our Support Team with the details requested.
