Losing Audio After Changing Output to Headphone

Macbook Air, 10.7.4

When I plug in headphones or external speakers via the headphone jack, I lose all audio.

When I open my sound preference pane, Boom is highlighted as my output device.

When I change my output device to "headphones," after less than a second, Boom is selected automatically and audio works again.

I'm guessing this is a bug with the way Boom detects changes in audio-output, or that Boom's polling isn't fast enough.

Either way - let me know if you've experienced this issue or can offer a fix.

Thanks.

  • Hi Pavingstonebeach,

Support Team will get in touch with you to resolve your query.
  • Hi,

I have been having the same issues as the above problem. is There any way boom will automatically detect when i change between headphones and speakers. It also doesn't work when i start the machine or wake it from sleep mode.

    Thanks

    Nathan
  • Hi Nathan,

Regarding your query: Usually Boom automatically switch itself when any audio output device is connected or removed from the system. Have you been using Apple TV with OS X 10.8? Recently few users have reported that when they wake-up system from sleep, they have to manually go to System Sound Preference and reset the output devices (by clicking on internal speakers, which then will revert back to BoomDevice).

We are currently working on to resolve this issue. A fix will be provided in the upcoming version.
  • Experiencing the same problem, all since Mountain Lion install ... keeps switching the boom/external speakers option in preference without me doing it ... and now sound plays distorted on internal speakers and exterior ones.

When will the new update be released ... and if I delete Boom now, do I have to pay again for the new version

thanks - love Boom when it's working :)
  • Hi, Same issue for me on Mountain Lion Boom v1.5.
  • I am having the same problem using Boom as a trial user with Mountain Lion istall on iMac 27 core i7. I'd really like to purchase Boom, but with this issue, I cannot justify doing so as I use my headphones quite a bit...Please fix this ASAP - Thanks.
  • With boom and apple TV; I had to uninstall it. Boom continually turns on an apple TV and asks for the password. I love Boom especially useful at the noisy apple store. Sound was an issue. I could not hear things with boom when the apple TV install password error popped up.
  • Hey,

We would like to inform you that we have released an update for Boom (v1.5.1) with a fix for the sound-disappearing issues on Mac OS X Mountain Lion.

The same update shall be available to the Mac App Store version of Boom users in the coming week as it has to pass through App Store review queue.

We thank all the users who have helped us in reporting the issue and taking part in beta testing.

The issue is not resolved for Mountain Lion 10.8.1. Even after using the uninstall script I do not have audio out to the speakers and can no longer control the volume setting. My sound is not working at all!!!

    Hey MercilessFir,

Could you please tell us from where have you purchased Boom and which version of Boom are you using?

The sound disappearing issue has been fixed and verified in Boom v1.5.1.
The issue you are mentioning seems to be a new one. None of the user has mentioned the same. Could you please elaborate your issue?

Also once Boom is quit or uninstalled from the system, then Boom has nothing to do with your system sound.

You might want to know that we have put the application under intense testing in different scenarios and we have not been able to see any possible damage to the speakers.

Also in following post http://globaldelight.com/globaldelightforum/discussion/196/boom-disables-audio-mountain-lion-10-8-1#Item_1 you have mentioned that after removing the headphone jack sound would no longer generate from the speakers. We Googled it and found a tip that you should put a tooth pick in the head phone jack to try to move a switch in the port. Sure enough it shall work if the issue is same.
