Boom Update 1.8.1 appears to be Broken

edited December 2013 in Boom Discussions
The new Boom update 1.8.1 was just pushed to me. Now, I have nothing. Boom disappeared from the dock. The app did not launch or open. Not a good sign. I have OSX 10.9 Mavericks.

UPDATE: I removed the app and downloaded a trial version - it appears to be working again. Not a smooth transition.

  • Hi Alvin,

Could you please let us know from where have you purchased Boom?
Have you purchased Boom via Mac App Store or the website store?
If you have purchased Boom via Mac App Store, then please uninstall trial copy of Boom within the app via Settings->Preferences->Uninstall and reinstall a fresh copy via Mac App Store and check if it helps.
  • I just tried to update to 1.8.1 (I think) and got "An error has occured" next to the Installed button in the MAS Updates pane. I can launch the app and it shows as 1.8.1 but, no volume boost. Originally purchased from MAS. I will try uninstalling and re-download.
    Mtn Lion.

Well, that didn't work; the Uninstall script doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's different for Mtn Lion? Now I am stuck in a loop - and I can't get out. I can't uninstall Boom and Finder>Applications shows Boom.app with the download progress bar next to it at about 5%. So, useless at the moment. And, of course, MAS shows it as Installed so I can't re-download/install it.
  • Hi Ndnajnz,

Mac App Store users facing issues with volume boosting, please follow these simple steps and update the audio component:

-> Open Boom's main interface and click on the 'Know More - Mac Volume'
    tab given on the bottom.
-> Click on the 'Get - Mac Volume' button. This takes you to a page containing
    the latest audio component.
-> Download the appropriate file and install it. This enables the
    system-wide volume booster feature.
->Once the installation completes, click on 'Done' in Boom window.
