Boom V1.8 NOT WORKING in Mavericks

edited November 2013 in Boom Discussions
I have had boom for a while - after updating to Mavericks, sound is mute every time I start anything that requires it. The workaround is to open preferences and select internal speakers as a sound device - the system will then activate boom and work properly for that session of whatever i am playing... if playing something else, i have to do this again.
I have sent emails, questions, suggestions, anything I could think of to support and have not heard from you on how to fix this. PLEASE advise ASAP

thanks!

  • Hi Mccosha,

Could you please let us know the music source?
As you have mentioned that you open System Preferences and select internal speakers manually, before you select, do you see BoomDevice selected under System Preferences? If yes, is Boom active (do you see Boom icon in your menu bar?).
Could you please provide us your system info, OS details and the sound output device listed in your System Preferences.
  • Yes, the BoomDevice is listed under System Preferences. Sound output is mute when I select it.
The Boom icon is on the menu bar but when I click it the file menu appears and never the volume bar.
Mac OS X 10.9 on a both a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo 17" Macbook Pro, 8Gb RAM and a mid 2013 11 inch I7 Macbook Air, 8Gb RAM. The same problem on both computers.
(I am not the original poster but I guess we have the same problem)
  • it happens with any music source (I tested with itunes, chrome, mozilla and mplayer)
  • Hi Kanguru007,

Mac App Store users facing issues with volume boosting, please follow these simple steps and update the audio component:

-> Open Boom's main interface and click on the 'Know More - Mac Volume'
    tab given on the bottom.
-> Click on the 'Know More' button. This takes you to a page containing
    the latest audio component.
-> Download the appropriate file and install it. This enables the
    system-wide volume booster feature.
->Once the installation completes, click on 'Done' in Boom window.
  • I am experiencing the same problems listed above. I have followed admin's advice from Dec3 but am still experiencing problems whenever my Macbook wakes from sleep. I also get a "record skipping" effect from Spotify until I open up prefpane and tell the Sound page to use Internal Speakers. It's a pain in the ass to have to open SysPref a couple of times a day just to get my audio to work.
  • Downloaded the trial today. app shows in app menu but not on menu bar. cannot open Boom's main interface to get to the 'Know More - Mac Volume', Thought maybe I should try uninstalling and reinstalling, but cannot do that get a message that Boom is running.

What is the work around this.

    Thanks

    @PdxTop,
Website version of Boom does not provide the 'Know More' option, it is available only for Mac App Store version of Boom. When you click on Boom app via Application folder, do you see Boom icon launch in your menu bar (top right corner)? Please make sure that your menu bar is not crowded.
Also please make sure to uninstall Boom within the app before reinstalling a fresh copy.

Facing the exact same problem as Kanguru007.
"-> Open Boom's main interface and click on the 'Know More - Mac Volume'

Can't seem to find this. I am v1.8 and have latest iTunes too.
  • Hi VivD,

Could you please let us know what do you see in Boom's main interface? Please provide us a screenshot of the same.
  • HI Admin,

As requested above - yes I do see BoomDevice listed under System Prefs. And yes, it is active.

My OS is OS X 10.9 (13A603). Sound output device is BoomDevice. But lately I've had to turn it off as it's completely glitchy.

    Hi Cameronreilly,

We have released a latest version of Boom a while back (v1.8.1), could you please update your copy of Boom to the latest version and check if it helps.
