edited February 2015 in Boom Discussions
To all users experiencing various issues with Boom on the new OS X
Mavericks (10.9), please go through the following carefully.

1. Update Boom to the latest version (1.8)
2. Also, Update iTunes (v11.1.3)

3. For Mac App Store users facing issues with volume boosting, please
follow these simple steps and update the audio component:

-> Open Boom's main interface and click on the 'Know More - Mac Volume'
tab given on the bottom.
-> Click on the 'Know More' button. This takes you to a page containing
the latest audio component.
-> Download the appropriate file and install it. This enables the
system-wide volume booster feature.
->Once the installation completes, click on 'Done' in Boom window.

  • followed instructions but the install fails...
  • I got this to work. This really should be more obvious. I have a feeling you are going to get lots of support emails on this.
Thanks for the great product though!
  • This did not work for me. Can't open the zip file. It starts to launch from the dock, then disappears.
  • Here is the error message I get:
  • Boom support emailed me a fresh Mavericks file, and it worked, although It still started to launch, then quit. I had to find the file in Spotlight and launch from there.
  • Thank you for updating.
  • May I ask why? The previous installers of Boom was so easy, simple and just working. Why this is like this now? How the future upgrades will be? Same trouble every time?
  • Hi RodrigueDan, as you might have experienced, Boom wasn't working correctly with OS X Mavericks (specifically QuickTime and not iTunes) which was related to the audio component. A mere update would not have solved that issue and wanted all of the existing Boom users to get the new audio component so that they can experience Boom on Mavericks just like they have been, since the past 33 months. With Mac App Store version of Boom, we never get to know who are our customers as Apple don't share the users data with developers. If we had that option, we would have contacted via email and informed our users about it. But with that option not being in place, the only choice was to force the existing user to update to the latest version of audio component. This may not occur again but we don't rule out the rare possibility. Hopefully, we may find a better and convenient solution by then. We understand your concern and thank you for your support and co-operation. Now please enjoy Boom! :)
  • Thank you for your explanation. And yes, I will fully enjoy Boom now!

    Hi,

With a clean installation of MacOSX Mavericks, fully updated iTunes (v13.1.3) and then installation of the MAS version of Boom (v1.8), I am still experiencing the known issues reported in other discussions.

There is a delay of the notification sound when increasing/deacreasing volume from keyboard. Many times the notification sound is clipped.
Also, while on YouTube videos, the OSX system notification sounds come out distorted.

Lastly, I would like to know if it's possible to change to the site version of Boom, as it seems users get better and quicker support and most important even faster the new updates and fixes.

    Thank you!
  • I'm having the same issue as this thread. Downloaded from App Store (v1.8) + Mavericks. I'm lacking the "Know More - Mac Volume" Button. So I cannot download whatever it is, that is missing. Is it too much to ask to put up an announcement with a link (or series of links) to the missing components?
  • @cvk: Hey, thanks for updating to the latest version of Boom v1.8 on 10.9. Thank you for notifying about the audio clipping issue. We are currently looking into the issue and it would take some time for the engineers to fix it. Please be patient and do understand, we are trying our best to provide the next update with fixes.

As far as the support is concerned, we do treat with the same (and lesser) Turn-Around-Time irrespective of your point of purchase. :) We try to release updates simultaneously through all the channels and some times the delay creeps in but does not stop there. If you would like, you can buy the site copy separately as we don't offer free switch between Mac App Store to site version or vice-versa.

@Stomp442: Can you please confirm if 'Know More' button in that tab isn't loading the website or the audio component isn't downloading? We have put up the link and screenshots in this forum and on our @boomapp Twitter account. For your reference, once again: http://www.globaldelight.com/boom/boom-audio-component.html

Please download and install the correct audio component. It's that easy! :)
  • @GlobalDelight

Thank you for your response. If I can help you somehow (provide log files, etc..), please just tell me so!
Boom is an amazing app and I just want it to be perfect again as soon as possible!
I'll just wait for your updates on this guys!
  • @GlobalDelight. The "Know More" button does nothing. I can click it and nothing happens. I did receive the download link via email from Tech Support today. I will update the thread once I try installing.
  • I just downloaded the missing audio component. All is working.
  • okay! i have uninstalled whatever version of Boom i was running to see if it was the cause of the beginnings of all my sounds getting clipped off (sounds start playing about halfway through). it was - my sounds play just fine with Boom removed from my system. i followed all instructions, paid for Boom a second time because my original purchase was not through the App Store, successfully downloaded and installed all components, and the beginnings of all my sounds are still getting clipped off. is there a fix planned for this?
  • alright, the software no longer works properly. i've uninstalled it (manually, since the uninstaller doesn't work). since i've paid for it twice but got some good use out of it before it broke beyond recovery, i'd like one of those payments refunded to me.
  • Have you guys from GlobalDelight tried Boom with external speakers? It cuts off all sounds, even worse with system sounds.
  • @Stomp442: Thanks for the update.

@Ian: We are aware of this issue. The audio clipping is only at the beginning and we are looking into this. As soon as we have found a fix, we will push an update.

@AJB: Yes, we have played but we did not get this issue. Any additional info (OS X, Boom version, iTunes version, the player/music/content you are playing, the maker of the external speaker, connected via Audio-Out or USB etc.) would help us. You could also write to us: boom@globaldelight.com
  • I sent you an email, anyways here it is.
    OSX. 10.9
    iTunes 11.1.3
    Audio-Out: Toslink
    Speakers: Logitech Digital 5.1
    Players: MPlayer, Quicktime and VLC
There is no sound while using VLC and selecting Boom As audio device.
  • @AJB: Thank you. Our developers are onto it and if required they will get in touch with you for any additional info or for providing a beta build in the next few days.

  • @AJB: Here's the solution --

While using Boom app with VLC player, please verify the below settings

    1. In system preferences check whether BoomDevice is selected in Sound -> Output
    2. In VLC player, you can find the "Audio" option from the VLC menu bar, please select BoomDevice as the Audio Device
  • I followed your instructions with VLC and sound comes and goes, like being muted. I have to deselect it and select it again many times.
  • Like I said, with VLC there is no sound while having BoomDevice selected in Audio.
  • Hello,

I'm experiencing the same problem here, as indicated by AJB, since the update to version 1.8 of Boom on mac osx Mavericks, no sound or intermittent sound from VLC. And it seems that this problem is being experienced by more people, see here:

    https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=114753

The immediate workaround seen to be to select the standard sound output from VLC audio menu.

    Thanks you,

    Miguel.
  • My installation of Boom won't "stick." I have to reinstall the audio component after every sleep session or start-up. Then it runs fine. I'm fully updated with Maverick and Boom 1.8. I purchased the original Boom app via the App Store several years ago, updating recently. Any thoughts about how to install once and for all?

    George
  • I confess. My technical problem was a jumpy cursor finger. In inadvertently downloaded the 10.8 audio update instead of the Maverick update. Once I realized and corrected the problem, Boom worked perfectly and reactivated with each new session. Now, about that fix for the cursor finger . . . .
  • @AJB: We will get back to you when we have more info at our end.

@CellarDoor: Thanks for sharing the link. We will check that out.

@glvogt: Good to know that your problem got solved and you can enjoy Boom as usual :)

We are working on an update that contains the defect fixes for certain issues reported. It might take some time for us, however, we will push it out as soon as possible.
  • @Celldoor & AJB: Can you please let us know whether this issue occurs with other audio devices installed or external devices connected to your system & please provide below listed info.

    - Version No. of VLC player.
    - Does this issue with VLC observed before updating to Maverick OS ?

I have installed the version 1.8 but its locked and wants me to Buy the application, even though I have already paid through Mac App Store. Also to mention, I am not getting the icon (button) about Know More at all.

Edit: Just realized that an update is available through Mac App Store (did not list it under the Updates section.
