I've been trying out Boom this week, and today, its trial license has expired. Which would be fine if not for the fact that my system's ability to play any sound at all has died as well. I tried quitting Boom. Nothing. I tried killing both Boom-related processes. Nothing. I tried restarting. Nothing. I've never had a problem like this before, and it occurred the moment Boom informed me that my trial period was over. All sound on my computer (Mac OS X 10.5.8) has essentially been taken hostage, and it's vital that this be resolved ASAP.

Could you open System Preferences->Sound and check which device has been selected under audio output? After the trial expires, Boom does not take the computer sound as hostage. Please click on the active sound output device and check if it helps.
