Voila and Lion

edited July 2011 in Voila Discussions
Hi. I'm an avid user of Voila and I'm writing to find out whether the current version will work under Lion, Apple's upcoming version of OS X that's expected to be available on July 14th.

If it's not compatible, can you tell me whether a Lion-compatible version will be a paid upgrade or not?

Thanks a lot.

Voila does not work with Lion

All you will get is a black screen,
  • Hi all!

We have been testing Voila with Lion and we have come across similar issues mentioned by you. These issues are faced by all similar applications. This is due to a few changes in the Lion OS.

Having said that, we have already identifies and have provided for fixes in the next update, which will be released in time for the new OS release. As of now we shall be giving it away as a free update, so that any of our friends who decide to migrate to Lion can still enjoy their copy of Voila!
  • Hi, any news about compatible Lion version ?
  • We are almost ready, it shall be out in time for the release of Lion.
  • Great in the mean time do you think that you should be saying that Voila is compatible with version 10.5.8 or NEWER on your web page?????
  • Hi bflet

Yes, Voila v3.0.4 is compatible with 10.5.8 and later, 10.6.x as well. So, in short, 10.5.8 or newer. :)

Lion compatible version 3.1 of Voila would be coming out soon; we are testing out the web version. Updated version would be released simultaneously on the Mac App Store and on our website as well.
  • Tried to run Voila 3.1 in Lion but quits continually. Went back to 3.0.4, which so far runs fine.
  • Hi payshunz,

We have tested Voila 3.1 in Lion, it works fine. Could you send me the console log to voila@globaldelight.com. We will surely look into it.
  • The 3.1 work fine on my Lion, I just had a problem during the update, the download process never finishes. so I re-download a version from the website.
  • I downloaded a fresh (3.1) copy from the web site. It crashes when I accept the terms of the licensing agreement. Now, not only can I not make new captures, I can't access my existing library. Hope Global Delight is putting the resources on this to get it fixed properly and quickly. Nothing drives users to competing products like this kind of a fiasco.
  • the version 3.1 does not work on my Lion....tried everything...I see some people have the same probleme.
    I hope a solution is coming ......
  • I have found that update 3.1 for Lion does not install properly
The download that never ends... the wait continues...

  • Great support by Global Delight - Voila 3.1 now running flawlessly under Lion, courtesy of the redemption code and the App Store download. Much appreciated. Voila is a favourite app that I've come to rely on - was getting in a bit of a sweat going into a project without it. All is well now, thanks again!
  • Downloading manually worked for me BUT I had to restart.
  • Sorry, but I still have problems installing the software. while installing the software always crashes and I can not install voila with lion.
  • Voila keeps crashing in LION.

Can I please have the OLDER version because the upgrade download destroyed my older version.

Thanks and can I have it ASAP

    Hi krisffm, FiL,

Could you send the crash report to our support team. We will assist you there.
  • FYI as I was having several software issues after upgrading Snow Leopard to Lion (including Voila 3.1 not running) I did a clean install of Lion on another drive. I just installed Voila 3.1 on this clean system and (so far) it seems to be working well. Why it didn't like the Snow Leopard - upgraded to - Lion I don't know.

Loaded Voila via the App Store -- crashes every time I try to open it. Loading the version from your web site requires a validation code after 15 days. How can I get that code?
  • I am using Voila 3.1 under Lion. Screen Capture seems to work ok, but Recording a Selection does not. It goes through the recording, but when I click on All Videos in Voila Organizer, it crashes. Crash report attached.
Thanks for any info you may have.
  • I experienced exactly the same crash as dreukema.
  • I loaded 3.1 with lion and all I get is a problem report after I accept the license.
  • Upgraded to 3.1 on Lion and now Voila crashes. I wish I had read this before I upgraded :(

Crash report has been sent to voila@globaldelight.com.
  • @dbawn: Could you please delete website version and re-install from the Mac App Store(as you have purchased from Mac App Store). Regarding the crash, could you send the crash report to the support team and they will help you with the rest. If you have any further queries please contact our Support Team

@dreukema, rfgeorge: Could you please check for the following path in your "system library" (not the user library).
    /Library/QuickTime/3ivxVideoCodec.component

    - Check for the file, if present zip or back up the file and delete the file.
    - Now launch Voila and let me know the results.

If you have any further queries please contact our Support Team

@jlaw16: We believe our support team has taken care of the problem faced by you.
  • Hi All,

Updating on the Voila crash which was caused by the component "3ivxVideoCodec.component"

If the library is hidden then please follow the link:
    Lion hidden library

As you can see the component mentioned was of QuickTime. The component was not compatible with Lion and hence voila was crashing. They are working on the issue. Please follow the link to the forum of the component:
    3ivxVideoCodec.component forum
  • I am a bit confused. Does this application now work in Lion or not? Are we waiting for 3ivx to get its act together before we can expect Viola to work as it should, or is there something that I need to do as an individual user? Please let me know how to proceed.

    Thanks!
